It is sad that a Metal festival with an aim at keeping the Metal flag flying high within South Africa is over. Now there is a definite lack of a purely metal show, especially in Gauteng.

But as all things that pass, new things arise and we must not lose faith.
The mention above that Metal is not dead rings true! It is now just more underground....

All that the fans want, is a safe place to go so that they can enjoy what they love: Metal.
So why do organisors try so hard to divide and conquer by bringing in an element of commercialism and rivalry between festivals?
I think it is purely a cash card they are drawing. But heck. Who does not want to make bucks... even bands need financial support in SA, which is why they end up playing at any shows or festivals and not specific ones that pay well.

And my last little pieceof rant... if we all love our SA Metal so much, we should also support the metal bands more by going to the smaller gigs as well and not always just the big fests... that will grow the scene in such a large way.
How did thrash metal keep going for so long in the USA in the 90's? No big festivals constantly with 5 million bands. but all the small gigs that packed out a venue , even on a weekday night, and all that was featured were 3 bands! not 40 or 50! Down with over kill on festivals, especially 1 day festivals!
Check out Waccan to see what a true festival is!

> "whatever happened to contrast the water, they were so sick, bring them back, get more out of town bands please! metal scenes must unite and not pushed apart"

Dear iwrestledatransexualtwice

Contrast The Water are alive and well. We have remained in touch with them regarding future shows. At present, they are in the crucial stages of creating their next album! From what we have heard, it is likely that they may visit Cape Town on their own steam before the end of the year.

In the meantime, their next appearance on the M4A Stage is very likely to be at Ramfest V in 2011.

As for getting more out of town bands, this is our goal as well. Sadly, since the recession hit, this option of travelling is out of reach for most South African bands. Although we can assist bands with some funding from the event, what we are able to offer is not always enough to entice the bands we want to see into our kick-ass city. Rest assured, we will ALWAYS have at least one special visitor from out of town - even if I must sell my body on the street to make it so! :P This time it is Wrust from Botswana.
